He is a Chartered Member (CPsychol) in the British Psychological Society (BPS), specifically in the field of Sport and Exercise Psychology, and is also registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC), the competent licensing body for psychologists in the UK.Babis has provided extensive psychological support services to athletes, coaches and interdisciplinary teams in a wide range of sports (e.g. Formula 1/2/3, football, shooting, fencing, table tennis, etc.), and has personally been involved for several years in another high performance area, classical music, having played classical violin himself.
His counseling includes – but is not limited to – individual sessions, group sessions, psychophysiological coaching, coach education and customized psychometric, psychomotor and psychophysiological assessment. Babis is highly skilled in sports psychology assessment and coaching based on high tech tools. Within this framework of expertise, he is the creator of the most modern psychophysiological assessment and training laboratory, the so-called Mindroom at the largest sports academy in Qatar. He has presented, as well as contributed, to the presentation of various research related to sport psychology at international conferences, and has led and contributed to the publication of articles related to applied sport psychology and exercise psychology. He is a specialist in applied biofeedback within the context of psychological support for athletes with particular expertise in heart rate variability training and its benefits in stress management.
Babis has been for many years a pioneer of applied sport psychology and offers a unique opportunity for the students of the College to engage, deepen and explore issues related to emotion control, optimal cognitive function and motivation, key factors that determine high performance not only for athletes but also for any other individual who wants to reach a high performance level.
As of early 2020, Babis is the College’s Director of Academic Affairs and leads the academic team that includes Academic Program Leads, academic faculty and administrative staff in the Department of Academic Affairs.
