Christina Simitsi

Christina Simitsis, after completing her undergraduate studies in Psychology, continued her postgraduate studies in Clinical Psychology. At the same time she was trained in experiential counselling and personal development techniques at the Scottish Qualification Authority and in individual and corporate coaching at the Athens Coaching Institute. She then went on to further her studies in England with a Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology and then received a full scholarship for her PhD at the University of Huddersfield in the field of Clinical – Forensic Psychology studying criminals suffering from schizophrenia. Finally, she undertook her training in Systems Psychotherapy at the Centre for Applied Therapy and Counselling.

Since 2013 she has been working with clinical populations and has done six internships in different psychiatric settings during her early studies. At the University of Huddersfield during her PhD she was also a Graduate Teaching Assistant until early 2020 where she completed her dissertation. Since 2016, she has been working as a lecturer in Psychology on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, while holding administrative positions on the respective programmes. Since 2023 she has also been working privately as a systemic psychotherapist.

She has been a member and coordinator of several research groups and her research interests focus on the areas of clinical and forensic psychology in which she has specialized. In particular, she is involved in the criminality of mentally ill people, criminal and geographical profiling, interrogation techniques, eyewitness testimony, domestic violence, self abuse, depression and suicidality as well as systems therapy and emotional intelligence.
