George P. Pagkalos

MD, FECSM, IDFAPA

George is a graduate of the Military School of Corps Officers and a graduate of the Department of Medicine of the School of Health Sciences of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He received his specialty in Psychiatry at the 1st Psychiatric Clinic of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he remained as a research associate (2012-2020).
He completed the training program in Clinical Sexology of the Lifelong Learning Structure of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and attended the postgraduate school of Sexuality Medicine of the European Community for Sexual Medicine with a scholarship of the European Federation of Sexology.
He was trained in Oxford as a fellow in psychopharmacology by the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology and in clinical research methodology at the University of Barcelona by the same institution. He was awarded the title “Fellow of the European Committee for Sexual Medicine” (FECSM) by the MJCSM European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS, 2016). He was retrained (Honorary Clinical Fellow) in the field of “Psychosexuality and Interpersonal Relationships” at the Specialist Clinic for Sexual Dysfunctions of the A Psychiatric Clinic of the A.P.Th., Papageorgiou General Hospital.
He is an attending physician at the Psychiatric Clinic of the 424 General Military Training Hospital and works privately in private practices in Athens and Thessaloniki. He is in charge of the Specialist Clinic for Sexual Medicine of the Euromedica General Clinic of Thessaloniki and the Specialist Clinic for Sexual Dysfunctions and Interpersonal Relationships of the Psychiatric Outpatient Department of the 424 General Military Hospital.
He is a full member of the World Psychiatric Association (WPA), the American Psychiatric Association (APA), the Hellenic Psychiatric Association (HAPA), the Greek Psychiatric Association (HAPA) and the Association of Professional Psychiatrists of Greece (ENEPSE), the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), the International (ISSM) and European (ESSM) Society for Sexual Medicine and was a founding member of the European Association of Psychosomatic Medicine (EAPM).
Participates in the Global Clinical Practice Network (GCPN) of the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse of the World Health Organization (WHO), in order to complete the structure and content of the new International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD-11).
He participates as a member of the Review Committee in the new version of the WPATH Standards of Care (SoC Version 8) and as a member of the writing team of the chapter “Global Applicability”. He is Vice Chair of the Communications Committee of the International Society of Sexual Medicine and served on the ISSM Advisory and Guidelines Committee.
He is a member of the UEMS Section of Psychiatry and an elected member of the Standing Committee on Training representing the Panhellenic Medical Association. He is a member of the UEMS Multidisciplinary Joint Committee of Sexual Medicine representing the UEMS Section of Psychiatry and a member of the MJCSM European Sexual Medicine Examination Committee.
He has been invited as a speaker at Greek and International Psychiatric and Sexology Conferences and has worked as a principal investigator or member of a research team in Greek and international clinical studies.
He has been awarded the European Security and Defence Policy Service Medal (ESDP) and the Gold Cross of the Order of the Phoenix by the President of the Hellenic Republic.
He was awarded the title of “International Fellow” of the American Psychiatric Association (IFAPA) for his significant contributions to the field of Psychiatry. He was named an “International Distinguished Fellow” of the American Psychiatric Association (IDFAPA) for sustained and outstanding contributions in various areas of Psychiatry and community service.
He is the elected Secretary of the Military Psychiatry Branch of the World Psychiatric Society, Secretary of the Hellenic-American Psychiatric Society and Special Secretary of the Association of Professional Psychiatrists of Greece. His scientific interests are male and female sexual dysfunctions and the health of people with gender identity diversity.
