Panayiotis Karagiannis studied at the Bachelor of Psychology at the University of Central Lancashire at ICPS. Having undertaken many hours of clinical practice during his studies and placement, he was directly accepted after graduation onto the Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at City, University of London.
During his doctoral studies in Counselling Psychology he volunteered in non-profit organisations for children as well as in various levels of the National Health Service (the UK's equivalent of the NHS) where he gained extensive experience in the application of various psychotherapeutic models and approaches. Significant experiences included working in the Talk Wandsworth IAPT service where he provided psychotherapeutic care for people suffering from anxiety disorders and depression. As well as his experience at the NHS specialist gambling rehabilitation clinic (National Problem Gambling Clinic) where he received one of his specialisms. During the same period he completed his PhD thesis on "How people with problem gambling experience the workplace" and followed the phenomenological qualitative method. In addition, Panayiotis received specialized and conventional experience in the application of the Cognitive Therapeutic Model, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Schema Therapy theory.
Alongside his PhD studies, he set up Change To Be LTD through which he provides psychological therapy to people in the UK. The office and company are maintained to this day face-to-face and online with a significant number of patients.
After his doctoral studies, Panayiotis attended the Master's Degree in Applied Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology directly from the University of East London, through which his interest in applied positive psychology and psychotherapy was motivated. In addition, during his Masters he specialised in positive support for people suffering from chronic and psychosomatic illnesses. He conducted a Systematic Review entitled 'Positive Psychology Interventions for People with Cardiovascular Disease' as part of his thesis.
At the same time, Panagiotis works as a Clinical Lead on the Support Room platform where he supports people, through messages and live video online, who face problems in the workplace. Apart from this he is actively involved in the creation of the Support Room web clinic, creating treatment and diagnostic protocols and user experience for both patients and therapists.
At ICPS Panagiotis has a multifaceted role where he combines the role of coach to undergraduate and postgraduate students on their progression of studies and professional experience, while at the same time teaching courses in counselling and clinical psychology, psychopathology and positive psychology and psychotherapy.
