She completed her BSc in Psychology at the Université Paris VII – Diderot, where she continued her studies and obtained a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology and Psychoanalysis.
During her studies, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level, she was a clinical psychologist trainee in Psychiatric Hospitals and Medical Psychology Training Centres in Paris, under the supervision of psychiatrists and clinical psychologists. In particular, during the 3th In the second year of her undergraduate degree, she attended as an intern children’s sessions at the Child Psychology Medical Centre in Paris (C.M.P.P. D’Orly, Ile-de-France), under the supervision of a psychiatrist, and completed her undergraduate thesis on the relationship between siblings (case study). During the next two years of the master’s degree, she completed the three prerequisite internships at the Sainte-Anne Psychiatric Hospital and the Inpatient Institute of Psychoanalysis at the Sainte-Anne Psychiatric Hospital in Paris. In the first year of her master’s degree, she studied the difference between dreaming and paranoia on a clinical case, and in 2018, her master’s degree was on cases of adopted children who were later hospitalized in psychiatric institutions, examining symptomatological traces as a result of adoption (case study).
Then in 2019, she worked in London in Special Educational Needs Schools for children with learning and mental health problems. She worked with primary school children, but also with adolescents who had been diagnosed with Autism (autistic spectrum), A.D.H.D. and deafblindness. At the same time, she was a volunteer psychologist in a private clinic in London, where she provided initial clinical assessments to new cases.Returning to Greece, from 2021, she has been working as a Clinical Psychologist at the private Neuropsychiatric Clinic “Galini”, where she works directly with both psychiatrists and occupational therapists for acute and chronic cases. At the same time, she also focuses on the children’s clinic as she works at the special therapies centre ‘PE.PSY.PE.’, where she also provides counselling for parents. She maintains her private office in Athens, where she provides sessions in Greek, English and French.
Sophia Papanikolaou is a Member of the Lacanian Field Psychoanalysis Forum – Athens, International of the Forums – School of Psychoanalysis of the Lacanian Field Forums.
Her professional interest is mainly focused on psychiatric disorders, both adult and child and adolescent, providing psychoanalytic psychotherapy and parent counselling.
