Program Description

The Undergraduate Programme of Studies at Psychology is offered in cooperation with the University of Central Lancashire, the great international university of the North of England. The Bachelor of Psychology fully covers the the needs of an enlarged European market, as well as the needs of Greek citizens for prestige and quality in psychology studies that will ensure their future a place in the labour market

Bachelor of Psychology

If you wish to study Psychology in a modern curriculum and state-of-the-art facilities, then the Bachelor of Psychology at ICPS is a degree that will fully meet your needs. You will study on a programme that covers all the areas of psychology training as defined by the British Psychological Association. Cognitive, developmental, social, biological, clinical, forensic and sport psychology are just some of these areas. At the same time, tthe Programme covers key needs of every future professional who wants to excel in the job market. You will graduate with excellent observation, analysis, critical thinking and people and data management skills.

 

The main features of the project are:

  • Recognized by the Department for the Implementation of European Legislation (ATEIN) (formerly SAEP) as Equivalent (Professional Equivalence) of the Psychology degrees of public universities.
  • Issuance of a License to Practice as a Psychologist in Greece.
  • Registration in the most important European Association in this field, the British Psychological Association (under the Individual Basis procedure).
  • Ability to subscribe to the Association of Greek Psychologists (SEPS) (after obtaining a Master's degree in Psychology).
  • Guaranteed continuation of studies in Postgraduate Programmes of Study Universities abroad, as well as in the Postgraduate degrees offered by ICPS in Greece.
  • Secured practical training, which is at least 200 hours, in private and public sector organisations, in accordance with the provisions of the legislation (Law 4763/2020, Law 5006/2022).
  • Specialised courses, as well as practical knowledge in areas of applied psychology.
  • Courses aimed at formation of professional identity of students, already from the first year of study.
  • Teacher Team with extensive professional experience in their teaching subjects, as well as high-level studies and research activity.

 

Registration Criteria

  • High school diploma.
  • Good knowledge of English is desirable. You will study in Greek, but knowledge of English is helpful for studying the literature.
  • Good grade of high school diploma.
  • Assessment of study intention by a Study Advisor
  • Successful Academic Interview, if the Academic Advisor deems it necessary

 

The Bachelor of Psychology Programme, has a duration of three years. Upon completion of the programme, you can obtain recognition of the degree from the ATEEN (formerly SAEP). You can then be issued with a License to Practice as a Psychologist in Greece. Following the actions and the Panhellenic Association of Recognized Colleges, the identification process has been shortened considerably compared to the recent past. In less than two months, you will have received your degree recognition.

PS1010 - Methods & Applications of Psychological Research

In this section, you will learn about the importance of scientific research within the subject of psychology. You will become familiar with a range of research methods, including observational techniques and group comparisons. You will learn how to conduct research in a range of different areas and how to transfer these findings to a range of different audiences.

PS1020 - Introduction to Developmental & Social Psychology

This section is an introduction to developmental and social psychology. You will gain knowledge and understanding of a range of topics including Piaget's theory, moral development, conformity, obedience, development during adolescence and life and prosocial behaviour.

PS1030 - Introduction to Psychobiology & Cognitive Psychology

This module will introduce you to the physiological systems that underpin behaviour, based on the perception and processing of human information. It will also allow you to explore the explanation of behaviour in terms of physiological systems and neural structures.

PS1040 - Topical Issues in Psychology

In this module, the aim is to enhance your skills as psychology students and introduce you to interesting and practical applications of psychology in social, clinical, occupational, forensic, sports and other fields.

PS1050 - The Profession of Psychologist

The module aims to introduce you to the ethical and moral practice of psychology and to begin a career planning process, either as a psychologist or in another career that uses the knowledge and skills developed in the psychology degree.

PS1990 - English for Psychologists

This module aims to develop your English language skills (written, oral and listening skills), both in general and in relation to the use of terms used in Psychology. It focuses on undergraduate Psychology texts to improve the four key skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening in English.

PS2010 - Research Methods 1: Design & Quantitative Analysis

The aim of this module is to develop your knowledge and experience of psychological research methods, with particular emphasis on quantitative methods. Teaching covers a range of research designs and methods (e.g. experimental, observational and self-report), as well as quantitative analyses used in psychology, such as ANOVA and multiple regression.

PS2020 - Social & Developmental Psychology

This section covers in detail the areas of theory and research in contemporary social and developmental psychology. In social psychology, topics such as performance, social cognition and aggression are examined, while in developmental psychology topics such as language development, attachment and attachment theory are examined.

PS2030 - Cognitive & Biological Psychology

This module incorporates cognitive psychology, which examines fundamental aspects of human cognition, including reasoning and problem solving, as well as visual perceptual processes, as well as physiological psychology, which discusses fundamental areas such as the study of the brain, causality of behaviour and more.

PS2050 - Qualitative Research in Psychology

This section covers basic concepts and methodologies related to a variety of data collection and qualitative analysis techniques used in psychological research. The processes of focus groups and interviews are discussed in depth, and training is provided in techniques such as the phenomenological method, thematic analysis and discourse analysis.

PS2360 - Clinical Psychology

You will develop your knowledge of clinical and health psychology and their application to areas of mental and physical health. You will focus on the therapeutic process, from developing a biopsychosocial formulation, to informing a therapeutic strategy. Mood disorders, depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder are a small part of the topics.

PS2800 - Forensic Psychology

The aim of this module is to provide you with a comprehensive introduction to a number of areas of crime and the criminal justice system that psychologists have been involved in and are trying to understand. Topics covered include eyewitness testimony, expert witnesses, domestic violence, honour-based violence, offender detection and treatment, etc.

PS3010 - Violent & Sexual Assault

This module takes an in-depth look at current issues concerning violent and sex offenders, understanding the origins of offending behaviour, and assessment and treatment. Topics such as stalking, stalking, cyber exploitation, bullying, psychopathology and more are discussed with practical examples.

PS3025 - Brain, Treatments & Behaviour

In this section the focus is on the field of psychopharmacology, with particular emphasis on the study of the usually "abused" drugs and chemical treatments used for psychiatric disorders. The main topics are approached holistically from historical, biological, neurochemical and psychological perspectives. Dependence on heroin, alcohol, cannabis, stimulants and hallucinogens is also studied within the module.

PS3070 - Practical Training in Psychology

The internship module gives students direct contact with the subject in real working conditions. The minimum number of internship hours to be completed is 200 and the possibility of internships in institutions with a different focus in the wider public and private sector is offered.

PS3085 - Cognitive Behavioural Assessment & Training

This module develops your ability to apply cognitive behavioural theories to the assessment and design of interventions in Clinical and Health Psychology, as well as developing skills in cognitive behavioural problem formulation. Managing issues of anxiety, anger, depression, loss, chronic pain, unrealistic expectations are just some of the topics discussed.

PS3900 - Research Degree in Psychology

The research degree project provides you with the opportunity to conduct an empirical research project under the supervision of a qualified supervisor, thereby combining the knowledge you gain from studying the literature with data collected from real life and applying your knowledge of research design and interpretation of results.
