Visa & Residence Permit
If you are an international student from a country outside the European Union and you intend to study in Greece, it is important to prepare all the necessary documents for your application correctly. Below you will find the complete list of documents required for your application, so that you can secure your residence permit and complete your studies without any problems.
Certified Copy of Passport
A copy of the student’s passport is required. The official copy of the travel document certified by a competent authority or agency.
Copy of Student Visa (Visa D)
The student visa is usually a D visa (National Long Stay Visa). It is a special type of visa issued to people who are to attend an educational institution in a country for more than 90 days.
Certificate of Registration from the ICPS
The student will need a certificate of registration from ICPS confirming that they are enrolled on a full-time programme at the partner Central Lancashire University. The certificate must state the years of study and that the programme being attended is face-to-face and not distance learning.
Certificate of Financial Obligations
The student will also need a certificate stating that his/her financial obligations to the educational institution have been settled.
Proof of English Language Proficiency
The student must have proof of proficiency in the language taught in the programme. In this case in English. The level of language proficiency required of the student is at least B2.
Copy of Bank Account
A copy of a Greek bank account with the student as primary beneficiary is required. The information must prove that the student has sufficient resources to cover the costs of study and living expenses, the amount of which is determined by the common ministerial decision provided for in paragraph 51 of article 176 of Law 5038/2023.
Electronic Parabola
The €150 electronic fee is paid to the Tax Office. The proof of payment is presented together with the student’s application for a residence permit.
Consular Visa Fee
The consular visa fee of €90 is necessary in many cases, especially for issuing visas for people who are not EU citizens and want to travel or stay in an EU country such as Greece.
Private Insurance Policy
- Private health insurance provided by private insurance companies that covers medical expenses (in case of illness or accident). This policy is necessary for the application for a residence permit.
The insurance must cover all health risks, i.e. full coverage of medical expenses for any possible eventuality that may arise (illness, accident, hospitalisation, etc.).
The insurance policy must comply with the coverage limits laid down by Greek legislation (KYA 5038/2023, paragraph 10, Article 176).
Statement by the Directorate of Residence in Greece
Address of residence: The student must provide the address of the accommodation in Greece (e.g., rooming house, university residence, or private residence).
Proof of residence: The student may provide a rental agreement or a sworn statement from the property owner or the educational institution.The statement of the address of residence is necessary for the legality of the stay and for the correct registration of the person in the authorities’ database.
Criminal Record
In many cases, foreign students wishing to study in Greece or in other EU countries are required to provide a criminal record from their country of origin.
